What was the highlight of Scandic Polar

Good for a short stay

The location is perfect - even if you decide for a different accommodation, look in the vicinity of this one as that is the center of Rovaniemi where all the travel agencies are located and the Santa express bus passes through. The breakfast was better than I expected. If you come with a kid, the hotel offers plastic sleds which you can take to drag your kid around town. The staff is friendly.

The rooms are rather big, but boring - you wouldn't enjoy "just spending time" in them too much (imagine a "motel room" of sorts). If you're coming to Rovaniemi to fill your days with all the typical touristy stuff, that's totally fine. If it's your honeymoon or a similar romantic getaway - much less so. As other reviews mention, the hotel has a bit of a "dated 80s vibe". We did not find this to be a problem at all, but I can see how someone could expect something more modern(ized) from the Scandic chain, and feel a bit disappointed. The price (at New year's time) was 5x of what you'd pay for the same room in a different city on a different day. Yes, it is not a surprise and you know it already from what the site shows you, but these reviews here are for grumbling a bit, right?

Pleasant and conveniently located. Good for a short break of 2 nights. The price was expensive.

The breakfast was good, a nice range of choices. Fresh hot food was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel was clean. Good central location. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Nice seating area in the lobby.

The shower head did not stay in place when being used. The hairdryer did not work. There were no hot drinks available in the room.

This hotel was fit for purpose and very comfortable.

We only stayed for two nights. The Family room was large and the bathroom meet our needs nicely. The breakfast was excellent and the service and staff very helpful. We wouild stay again.

Nothing, but the hotel is showing its age and needs refurbishing.

The Scandic polar Rovaniemi has a great location, a very good buffet breakfast and is very very warm inside. The wifi works well. The staff is polite and helpful.

The rooms are outdated ( which would be fine) but the mattresses and pillows are quite bad. The mattresses are very soft, and the pillows too high. The area close to the window was terribly dirty, so it was likley not cleaned very frequently. The price is too high for the kind of hotel, but with the high season in Rovaniemi there are not many options .

Great location with overpriced room

Great location. In the center of the town. The staff was friendly and always happy to help and answer all the questions we had. Good breakfast.

For the price we paid and I understand this was during the peak season, I have to say that the room was way overpriced. The room was super small, with minimum amenities. It was a central heating so adjusting (in our case increasing the temperature) was not possible. There was a hot water in the lobby but the tea bag cost over 2 euro.

Lovely staff, 24 hr reception, great breakfast, so much variety, and 50mbps wifi

Seriously dated, extremely narrow bed, uncontrollable heating, karaoke bar across the street inexplicably loud in our bathroom until 1am. Way overpriced.

Short by was pleasant, was the expected

The breakfast buffet, with a wide variety of foods. My friend is vegetarian and there were options too. The room was quiet and had a view of the city, the heating cannot be changed but it is understandable. Likewise, we weren't cold, it was quite warm even though it was -25°C outside. It was very central the hotel.

The decoration of the hotel is a little old, and the lights of the room we're really yellow and low. So to do the make up or read was really hard. The staff we're ok.

Very Good

Hotel is perfect. I wasn’t sure what to expect as reviews are mixed so I was a bit nervous. Hotel looks dated but it is spotless. We had children with us and the hotel let us put in an extra bed and a cot in the room for no extra cost. The hotel is central in the city and there are buses to Santa village and Santa World. Bus brings you from outside the airport to a stop that’s a two minute walk to the hotel so no hassle getting there. Breakfast is included that has a great range. The staff are lovely , very helpful with everything.

Rooms are too hot and there is no way to adjust the temperature. Also the air in the rooms are very dry and our mouth and throat hurt.

disappointing facilities but good staff and location

good central location comfy bed clean room

the hotel REALLY needs updating, it is tired and the facilities in the rooms need to be improved, no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms, only in reception at a charge, only one pillow per bed, no way of altering the temperature in the rooms which are very very warm.

A bit expensive for the quality…

The location is very nice in city center and close to the river. the room had a good space with good accomodation. Staff was nice and helpfull Breakfast was good

For the price I would have expected better cleaning… I found big pieces of dust and some piece of paper which were not mine. Also a better isolation because I could hear the noise from outside almost as if windows were open, I had difficulty to fall asleep. I would also have clarifiedu that the space for the cars is limited… it was easy to find a spot in the street but unfortunatly not for free.

Decent but needs a facelift

the location is great, in the center. And there was a young lady at reception when we checked in who was so nice and helpful. The others didn’t seem to want to be there.

this hotel is badly in need of a renovation. At $250 a night, they really need to bring it into the 2020’s. Even into the 2000’s would be good.

We arrived Rovaniemi from Helsinki by train and went to the hotel by taxi. It really has a good location. I think we can walk there if there is no snow. There are many shops, malls and restaurants nearby. Everything is convenient. It also provided free sauna and some activity introductions at reception.

We stayed in a big room around the corner from the first floor, but it was poorly soundproofed. This hotel was many years old, and the equipment was old compared to the price of more than 300 euros a night.
